"This temple site is among the oldest temples in Cambodia and hidden away in the forest that surrounds the first capital city of the Khmer empire. The site is part of a larger area with three other temple sites: Lolei, Bakong, and Preah Ko, better known as the Roluos Group Temples, named after the small village that is in the middle of the temples".



Temple Info


Prasat Prei Monti is an ancient ruin of the Roluos Group hidden away in the forest near The Roluos village. It’s not easy to find and even local tuk-tuk drivers get lost sometimes. The temple was built during the reign of the Jayavarman III in the middle of the 9th century. This small ruin is standing on the mighty ground which is made from brick. Prasat Prei Monti consists of three towers and one of them dedicates to the Hindu god Indra.

All three towers are damaged and still not restored yet recently. It stands in the small forest and less preserved. The visitors cannot access the temple by car, so they will need to walk about two hundred meters. Visit the temple alone is not recommended as it so quiet sometimes.

Getting There

Prasat Prei Monti is located in the western of Bakong, Preah Ko, and Lolie temples and it about 15km from Siem Reap town.

To get to Bakong temple, you'll go from Siem Reap town along National Road 6 towards Phnom Penh, then turn right before you get to the Bakong High School. Continue along the road for around 400 or 500m and you’ll see Preah Ko on the right side, and then continue to the south about a few hundred meters you'll see the temple of Bakong. Then, continue to the southwest of Bakong along with the small villages about a few hundred meters, turn left through the small road, then you'll see the Primary school.

Arriving at the Primary school, then you'll need to explore into the villages with small forests to the east, the temple is located in the small forest.
