Temple Info

Spean Toeurb meaning of " Army bridge", presently called Spean Ou Chek is the longest and largest ancient bridge in Cambodia that has been left since the Angkor era but not quite as attractive as the Kampong Kdie Bridge (Spean Praptos). It is located in Cheung Tien Village, Cheung Tien Commune, Chong Kal District, Oddar Meanchey Province, which is located on the border of Siem Reap. It is an ancient bridge made of almost laterite, except for a dragon's ledge and a pedestal made of sandstone. Today, the dragon's handrail and pedestal remain only partially intact. Whereas some of the bridge pillars are very degraded.

It's about 149 meters long, width 15.50 meters and the high about 10 meters, and 35 drainage holes built during the reign of Jayavarman VII between the 12th century and The 13th of AD. The bridge is considered to be the longest of the more than 100 ancient bridges explored in Cambodia.

In the days when the capital of Angkor was the center of this vast empire, major sites, near or far, always connected to the center through the wavy communications network. These include roads, lanes, bridges, etc. For example, the route from Angkor to Sambor Prei Kuk (Isanbura) via the Roluos ( Hariharalai) and Kompong Thom (like Spean Praptos in Kompong Kdei district). Another example is the road that runs from Angkor to the Menam plains, especially pass through the Sdok Kork Thom temple (present-day province of Sa Kaeo in Thailand).

Currently, the location of the bridge is surrounded by a bamboo forest and a small forest growing near the side of the shady road makes the bridge calm and intimidating. Now we have a new bridge that has just been built for people to cross as normally. The road access to the bridge is blocked, but if we want to visit the bridge, we can go by walking for about 200 meters to the bridge. In the rainy season, it not a good time to visit the bridge because water fills the hole of the bridge and it is so calm and intimidates.
