Short Story

How could it be survived?

As villager who are living in the countryside and some remote area of Cambodia, I have no specific work professional skill. On the other hand, we don’t have more job opportunities to do in the rural area, unless we move to the capital cities such as Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Battambang or immigrate to other enough countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Korean, etc. We are a farmer with few people in the family. Our children are going to the local primary school every day by walking. We are doing the rice field for the raining season. This is our main job has to do because it could help my family to be survived.

Other jobs that we can do after finished the rice field are a construction worker and sale labor for other agriculture jobs for some opportunities only. Regarding these jobs, we couldn’t earn much. Doing the rice fields just for only to make sure we have enough food for one year and sometimes it so difficult to survive the living for the family.

Traditional fishery (Netting) is what Khmer villagers are doing every day, especially in the dry season after finished the rice field in order to help some part of the daily foods of family. We couldn’t catch more fish for selling, but we can help the family to have better nutrition food.
